Cat's First English Meow

1st Class:  4-15-2017

My student is in China, and our relationship is not only teacher-student, but we're also cousins. She was very shy at first, and refused to repeat the version of Aesop's Fables that I was using. I quickly devised a plan, though, and it seemed to do the trick. Instead of having her repeat long phrases, I'd read 6 words separately, then do them 2 at a time, 3 at a time, then the whole phrase. Occasional reviews helped refresh her mind, and eventually, she was able to read a full paragraph fluently and quickly. My uncle was a big help, and since I wasn't there to redirect her attention, I'll keep in mind that my uncle needs to be there every time. Lessons are scheduled for once a week, for about an hour. I gave her homework to be ready for the next class, and it was to read the 8 words that I assigned to her 2-3 times a day until the next lesson. Teaching was fun, and although we didn't get as far as I'd hoped, I'm glad to have the chance to boss someone around for education.
